We Call That "Growth"

Updated: Aug 31

Growth isn’t always loud or glamorous—it’s often subtle, messy, and deeply personal. Over the years, I’ve matured (productively, I might add) through a mix of life lessons, setbacks, and self-discovery. One tool that’s helped me along the way has been personality and learning style assessments.

When I first took these tests in 2018, it was to get a grade for class. Fast forward a few years, and I found myself retaking them—this time not for credit, but out of genuine curiosity and a desire to understand myself better. Life had shifted me in ways that textbooks couldn’t, and those shifts were reflected in my scores.

What I’ve learned is this: growth is not perfection. Every week brings a new type of struggle, but with consistency and intention, I keep moving forward.

My Everyday Growth Strategies

Here are a few practices that keep me grounded (when I actually stick to them):

  • Meditation & Reflection – I carve out 5–20 minutes daily, often starting my mornings with a devotional.

  • Movement – I aim for 20–30 minutes of exercise most days (my sweet spot is walking 2–4 miles a week).

  • Rewards That Matter – When I accomplish something meaningful, I celebrate—sometimes with a charm for my bracelet, sometimes with quiet time just for me.

  • Daily Planning – Each night, I sketch out my next day, and I give myself permission to revise as needed.

Of course, there are weeks when I miss the mark. I’ll look up and realize I haven’t walked, planned, or meditated in days. And yes, it shows up in my mood, my work, and even in how I present myself to others. Time management and procrastination are still my biggest battles, but I refuse to stop showing up for myself.

Because here’s the truth: self-care isn’t selfish. The more love, discipline, and care I pour into myself, the more I have to give to others.

That’s growth.

Smart & Sassy Note to Readers:

Sis, growth isn’t about doing it all right—it’s about showing up for yourself every day. Real talk: Perfection is boring, but progress? That’s where the glow-up happens.
